The lift was down, so these Air Force personnel carried a wheelchair-bound lady up and down a restaurant

Doris Loh and her 85-year-old mother-in-law were in a pickle when they went out for dinner at Toa Payoh’s Swatow Seafood Restaurant earlier this month.

The elderly lady is confined to a wheelchair, and they had no way of going up to the Teochew cuisine joint as the elevator wasn’t working that day. There was no other way to the restaurant on the second storey except the stairs, and that simply wasn’t going to work with the wheelchair.

Enter six Republic of Singapore Air Force servicemen who came to their rescue. The young righteous dudes from Sembawang Airbase thought nothing of carrying the wheelchair-bound lady up the flight of stairs to the restaurant.

That wasn’t all. In a letter of commendation published by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on his Facebook page, the lads stood ready to help again. “…they even told us that we could call on them when we needed to leave the restaurant,” wrote Loh — and they did.

“This civic mindedness and act of kindness must not be ignored but should be applauded.” First class air force, world class people indeed.
