Though the man responsible for sticking toothpicks into a bus seat as a prickly prank has been dealt with by the authorities, the sick joke might be far from over.

A lady took to Facebook last Tuesday with a post claiming to have her fingers bloodied up by sharp metal objects that had been “intentionally inserted” into a seat on SBS bus service 240. Pictures she put up showed a spot of blood on her right hand — an injury she claimed to have sustained from four unknown metal implements embedded in the bus seat. The shot she took of the seat in subject doesn’t seem to show what exactly the metal objects were.

If her claims were true, this possible copycat case would be way more disturbing than what 60-year-old Lim Lye Seng was responsible for when he perforated bus seats with toothpicks on four occasions this year. Wooden sticks are one thing, but metal spikes are a whole another level of malice. Some, however, believe that it may not even be an intentional case of mischief — just regular wear and tear on the bus.

The lady has since sent an email to SBS about the incident.

“…we have recalled the bus and removed the protruding staple to ensure that no one else gets injured,” said SBS Transit’s senior vice-president of corporate communications Tammy Tan to STOMP, before assuring that investigations are being conducted.
