Jobless couple in their 30s made money by importing and harboring Vietnamese hookers

We appreciate an entrepreneurial spirit, but not this kind.

A young jobless couple living at Block 41 Sims Drive has been caught making money off six Vietnamese women aged 19 to 27. “Sim Boon Keong, 35, and Huynh Dieu Tu, 33, both each pleaded guilty to receiving the hookers into Singapore, harbouring them and living off their earnings,” reports The Straits Times.

According to the report, Huynh sealed the transaction with the ladies last year via a messaging app — how casual! — offering to pick them up at the airport, lodge and feed them. Very Good Samaritan of her, no? Not quite. In exchange for the set-up, the women were asked to pay $20 a day for lodging and meals, and $1,000 to $1,900 each for their return tickets, and a loan of $1,000.

To pay the couple back, the Vietnamese women worked as freelance hostesses in pubs near Jalan Sultan and offered sexual services for $200 to $600.

The enterprising couple was each sentenced a year in jail last Friday.
