Veteran actor J.A. Halim died this morning at the age of 71, his children announced.
Halim died at around 7:50am at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, two days after he was hospitalized following a stroke. His body will be taken to the Alkaff Upper Serangoon Mosque prior to burial.
“It turns out that God loves him more,” his daughter, the actress Nina Halim, wrote on Instagram. She also thanked industry friends for the “emotional support.”
J.A. Halim, whose real name is AB Khalim Jamaludin, has been a familiar face in the Malay acting world for over 50 years.
His more recent shows include Suria channel’s Gunting as well as A Mother’s Heart, a short film in which he acted with Aminah Ahmad, his wife. In addition to his daughter and wife, other members of his family in the industry include his filmmaker son Helmindra Halim, who is married to actress Fizah Nizam.
The actor, who had recently complained of headaches, was attending a meeting moments before he was taken to the hospital Wednesday, Fizah told Berita Mediacorp. A colleague had noticed that her father-in-law was not speaking clearly.
At the hospital, the doctor confirmed that he had had a stroke.
He then fell into a coma yesterday morning after his blood vessels ruptured and the hemorrhage in his brain worsened. The family was told that his condition would worsen within 24 hours.
