Around this time last week, cops discovered a grisly sight in an HDB flat along Bedok Reservoir Road, where an elderly couple was found dead. Knives were spotted; money and valuables went missing from the home; and the family’s domestic helper was discovered to have already fled the country on a ferry.

The maid herself has been considered a prime suspect in the case, and the family is probably relieved to know that she has been arrested at a hotel in Jambi, Indonesia.

According to Tribrata News, 41-year-old Indonesian national Khasanah has confessed to the murder of 79-year-old Chia Ngim Fong and 78-year-old Chin Sek Fah — her former employers at the Bedok household. The couple was found with their hands tied up by raffia string, sporting various injuries on their body.

It was reported that Khasanah had only been living and working with the couple for about a month prior to the incident.

A tip-off was what led Indonesian police to an internet cafe, where she was spotted looking up online news articles about herself. Officers trailed her to her hotel and made the arrest soon after.

Cash in eight different currencies amounting to SGD256, handphones and jewellery were found in her possession, as well as other valuables including watches, a ring, a jade bangle, and a gold necklace.

Indonesian police will be detaining Khazanah and the evidence for further investigations, and will coordinate with their Singaporean counterparts.
