Hawker helper who went mental on 68yo customer gets 6 months jail sentence

You know how some hawker stall frontliners can make you feel like a little child, as if you’re just wasting their time? Well, some are fiercer than others.

Meet Tay Gim Huat, 35, who was working in Whampoa Market when a 68-year-old customer bought congee from his stall.

The old man had with him a fried dough stick bought from another stall and had asked Tay to please cut it into smaller pieces. Tay refused, they argued, and the old man was pushed and fell to the floor.

So fierce, right?

But it didn’t stop there. According to Channel NewsAsia, Tay attacked the old man again two hours later (after police had left the scene), and kicked him in the abdomen and ribs.

In total, the old man suffered two broken ribs, and multiple bruises and lacerations. All because of a you tiao.

For going totally mental and acting like a gangster, Tay has been sentenced to six months’ jail. That should be enough time for him to cool down — and maybe attend anger management sessions.
