Happy SG51: This year’s first National Day baby born exactly at the stroke of midnight

What are the chances that the first baby born on National Day this year would delivered exactly at the stroke of midnight? Pretty darned good for the parents of Beverie Goh Rui Xuan, it seems. The 2.9kg newborn was delivered in Thomson Medical Centre at midnight on the dot, just in time to ring in Singapore’s 51st birthday.

Thanks to their impeccable timing, the couple, who are in their late 20s, received a gift pack worth almost $1,000 from the hospital. In it were baby essentials like diapers, milk powder and a book on nutrition written by a paediatrician.

Meanwhile, at Mount Alvernia Hospital, just one second later, Toh Xiu Hui was born. The second National Day baby and her parents were gifted with a $600 hamper from the hospital.
