Grab has suspended one of its drivers — a man who was accused of assaulting a passenger during a trip, apparently out of frustration arising from a traffic jam.

A netizen went on Facebook to rail against the GrabTaxi driver who allegedly dealt verbal and physical abuse on his family members — they had booked a ride with him on the afternoon of Mar 25. His sister, mother and grandmother got into the Transcab taxi at Joo Chiat Complex — but it was when they got stuck in traffic that the cabbie started flaring up.

“Throughout the trip the driver didn’t talk, but started to show signs of temper when they got stuck at a traffic jam nearby Bedok Reservoir Road. He began to hurl vulgarities at my family telling them he is in a rush,” the man wrote in his post.

His sister asked him why he even picked them up in the first place if he was indeed rushing off somewhere. But the remark seemed to further aggravate the cabbie, and he allegedly punched the woman on her neck and arm before demanding that his passengers pay the fare and get out of the vehicle.

After doing so, the ladies made a police report against the GrabTaxi driver and uploaded it on Facebook, along with an account of their experience. The police, on their end, confirmed that the report was made and investigations into the case have begun. Grab did not comment further on the incident, except to state that the driver has since been suspended while investigations are ongoing.
