Flights from Singapore to Hong Kong canceled due to Typhoon Hato

Several flights from Singapore to Hong Kong this morning (Aug 23) have been canceled due to the approaching Typhoon Hato. According to The Straits Times, seven flights were canceled as of 11pm last night, and three were rescheduled.

Airlines involved were Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Scoot, and United Airlines. Some of the flights affected included United’s UA896 6am flight to Chicago with a layover in Hong Kong, as well as Scoot’s TR2062 6:05am flight.

Spokespeople for Scoot and Cathay Pacific said passengers would be informed of the changes in schedule via email. For travelers flying with the latter, you can book another flight with no penalty charge if yours has been rescheduled; if your flight has been canceled, you can get a refund.

But if you need the most updated flight information, visit the Changi Airport website.

The maximum category 10 storm caused hundreds more flights in and out of Hong Kong to be canceled today, as well as trading in financial markets to be suspended and schools and businesses to close.
