Fancy a new experience where you can shop and dine in the dark? 313@Somerset has it all. The shopping mall along Orchard Road suffered a blackout lasting just over an hour yesterday (Jun 22) after a power trip. Or was Earth Day coming nine months early?
Contrary to the usual bright lights that dazzle Orchard Road, 313@Somerset accidentally went against the grain by having their lights turned off, to shoppers’ and diners’ bemusement, resulting in an hour of darkness.
According to TODAY, most of the shops on the ground floor were shuttered, as staff members waited in darkness for the power to be restored, and it came back on at about 8:20pm. Many made cheering sounds when the power was restored, and shops resumed their business quickly. Staff were unsure what had caused the blackout.
Popular blogger Lee Kim Mun, also known as mrbrown, tweeted about the blackout and noted that all eight floors had been affected.

Cheryl Goh, General Manager of 313@Somerset, confirmed that the blackout occurred at 7:10pm and power was restored at 8:20pm. “The management is currently investigating the cause and regret any inconvenience caused earlier in the evening,” added Ms Goh.
