An 82-year-old man has been arrested following the death of his 79-year-old flatmate in Toa Payoh yesterday, police said.

According to a statement released by the public affairs department, a call for assistance was received at about 3:40am at a unit in Block 191 Toa Payoh Lorong 4, where they found the woman lying motionless and subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

While police have thus far offered no details about the cause of death or the two elderly persons’ relationship, local media have identified the two as unmarried flatmates Lim Soi Moy and Pak Kian Huat.

If found guilty of murder, he faces the death penalty.
