Driver falls asleep at wheel; drives on wrong side of road when jolted awake by police

Oh, look — here’s another case of a car driving against traffic, in what seems to be an alarming trend on the rise these past few weeks. This time, the man actually had an ‘excuse’: he was asleep at the wheel.

Around 7am on Saturday (Jan 14), a BMW was apparently parked at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 1 and Woodlands Avenue 2. Even when the traffic lights changed numerous times and other vehicles honked at the car, it remained unresponsive and stationary.

An eyewitness maintained that the driver’s eyes were closed, and he didn’t acknowledge multiple taps on the car’s windows. So the police were called in.

When one of the officers knocked loudly on the car’s window, the driver finally jolted awake and jammed his foot on the accelerator in surprise. Unfortunately, he ended up driving on the wrong side of the road. A police officer was reportedly almost hit when she attempted to stop the car by blocking it.

When the car eventually came to a stop, the 29-year-old driver was arrested for suspected drink driving.
