A bus driver has been disciplined after a passenger was knocked to the ground when her leg became trapped between two doors as she was about to alight in Hougang, SBS Transit said today.

The transit operator told Coconuts that it took “strict disciplinary action” against the driver, without specifying what that meant, and that it was monitoring his performance “closely.” The woman was the last of six passengers alighting at the bus interchange at around 2:40pm when she was sandwiched between the closing doors and fell to the ground with her left foot still onboard.

“The actions of our Bus Captain are most unacceptable,” spokesperson Tammy Tan said. “It is fortunate that the lady wasn’t seriously injured and received outpatient hospital treatment at the hospital.”

The unidentified woman was holding onto an inside handle with her left hand as she stepped off with her right foot when the doors abruptly began to close, pinning her body as she futilely slapped her hand against the window to get the driver’s attention. Unable to hold on, she is thrown hard to the ground, according to footage of Tuesday’s incident.

SBS Transit said it contacted the woman’s family to offer assistance, Tan added.

“We do wish her a speedy and complete recovery,” she said.

In the CCTV footage which has circulated online, the driver and a colleague are seen pulling the woman up to her feet.
