While those of us who celebrate Chinese New Year were gleefully snacking on pineapple tarts, collecting (or doling out) red packets, and losing money at family tournaments of ban-luck (Chinese Blackjack), one debt collection company was busy working through the entire long weekend.

Foregoing their own reunion dinners and family visitations, the debt solicitors paid a visit to more than 40 households between CNY Eve and the second day of festivities. The reason? Debtors were more likely to be at home during the festive season. Crafty.

Photos documenting the process were even uploaded on the company’s Facebook page, some with the unit numbers and apartment names on display.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the firm is co-owned by popular getai singer Chen Xiao Xin, also known as the “petite sakura” to her fans. Since it was established in August last year, it has received over 200 cases, the publication noted.

Chen’s business partner explained that the company was actually only supposed to officially start work again on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, but its workers came earlier to offer their assistance.

Of course, some concerned members of the public were wary about how carrying out the debt collection process during the festivities could be construed as inauspicious, but hey, when you gotta pay up, you gotta pay up.
