A bachelor party kidnapping prank outside a Sungei Kadut factory was so realistic that the cops were called

A bachelor party prank that went too well left a security guard so alarmed that he called the police — who later had to explain to the anxious man that it was all a mischievous joke.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the prank involved a Caucasian engineer getting “kidnapped” by his friends on Saturday afternoon outside his workplace, a factory in the quiet district of Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate.

To be fair to the security guard, the prank looked really realistic — two men ambushed the groom and placed a hood over his head before they struggled on the ground. The “victim” then had his hands bound with a cable tie as the men tried to toss him into a boot of a waiting car. Funnily enough, he didn’t fit, so they threw him into the backseat and drove away.

Without any context whatsoever, you can imagine the bewilderment of the factory’s security guard who witnessed the whole thing, which prompted a phone call to the police. As many as six patrol vehicles and nearly 20 officers reportedly arrived at the scene, according to Shin Min.

Alas, the cops somehow found out that the “kidnapping” was part of a bachelor party prank, and they explained the situation to the guard who made the call. It is unknown if the authorities may launch an investigation against the pranksters, who may or may not get in trouble for causing intentional harassment, alarm, or distress in a public place — it’s a fineable offence under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.
