A kid died after being conveyed unconscious to the National University Hospital today due to injuries sustained from being pinned under a bus.
According to various media reports, the six-year-old boy had been crossing a road along Choa Chua Kang Avenue 5 when the accident took place. The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the scene around 9am, and the rescue operation involved SCDF officers using lifting equipment to extricate the boy from under the rear wheel of the SMRT bus.
The ambulance transported the unconscious boy to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to a witness who spoke to STOMP, the boy’s father accompanied him in the ambulance, while other family members stayed at the scene to talk to the authorities. Another eyewitness told Channel NewsAsia that the boy’s mother was seen in a state of shock and had to be comforted by police officers and a group of people.
Members of the public informed TODAY that the boy had apparently been riding a scooter across the road when he was struck by the bus.
SMRT’s Vice-President for Corporate Communications apologized on behalf of the company and assured that their “care team” has reached out to the victim’s family at the hospital to provide support and assistance.
The 57-year-old bus driver is currently assisting the police with investigations. The police have also advised members of the public to refrain from spreading images and videos of the accident taken near Block 485D this morning.
