Yesterday morning, a fatal accident took place near Springdale Condominium, where a vehicle crashed into barricades and a tree along Upper Bukit Timah Road. The 28-year-old driver, who was stuck in the car, was rescued with hydraulic tools and taken conscious to National University Hospital. However, the 25-year-old male passenger was pronounced by paramedics to be dead at the scene.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that it was notified of the incident around 1:30am.
Photos of the wrecked white car circulated on social media over the weekend, alongside videos of the scene, which attracted a crowd of onlookers (and their phones).
The police announced that the driver has since been arrested for causing death by negligent act, and investigations are underway. The Straits Times noted that the accident was believed to have occurred when the driver lost control of his car and mounted the centre divider, colliding into a tree.
