The Tuas factory fire on Saturday (June 24), which claimed two casualties, saw the Singapore Civil Defence Force extinguish the blaze at 5:30pm, about one and a half hours after it was alerted to the situation. The victims were taken to the hospital for burn injuries after flames engulfed the building at 28 Tuas Avenue 10, and they are now in critical condition.

Both are currently in the Intensive Care Unit at the Singapore General Hospital — one’s a 27-year-old from Shandong, China, who suffered burns to 66 percent of his body, while the other’s a 39-year-old from Jiangsu, China, who suffered burns to 90 percent of his body.

According to the chairman of the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC), Yeo Guat Kwang, “SGH’s latest update on both workers’ conditions showed that they remain in very critical condition … We understand that the SGH doctors and staff are working tirelessly to treat their most life-threatening injuries.”

The MWC has gotten in touch with the workers’ company — which has said it will ensure the men get the proper care they need — as well as the Chinese Embassy to arrange for their families to visit them in Singapore.
