Friday, Oct 12

Autumn in the Train

In celebration of Oct 14’s “The Railway Day” in Japan, this train-themed event offers a screening of Jimami Tofu, a Pikachu meet and greet session, a marathon of anime flicks and Japanese comedies, a train video game booth, family yoga, and more.

Da:ns Festival

The dance-centric festival features more than 82 free events and 80 workshops and masterclasses over 13 days, with highlights like newly-commissioned works by Singapore and Asian dancemakers.

Dessert buffet at Coffee Lounge

Gorge on the King of Fruits at this D24 and Mao Shan Wang buffet, where durian features in mousse cakes, puffs, ice cream, Swiss rolls, puddings, pancakes, and more.

Got to Move

The nationwide dance movement grooves into its fourth edition with dance programs popping up all across the country, as well as new happenings like a social dance/street dance party, a choreographed piece by hearing and hearing-impaired choreographers, and more.

Jazzy Sport Singapore Pop-up

Cafe/restaurant/record shop White Label Records just opened up on Ann Siang Road a couple of weeks ago. (It’s still got that new car smell.) Their first big event is co-hosted with Jazzy Sport (also a cool concept store/record shop spot, coming from Japan): Grooveman Spot will be spinning on both nights, supported by the local likes of Rah and Bongomann, and food made by Wanton.

Snail Mail Live

19-year old American singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordon (AKA Snail Mail, AKA the “indie-rock prodigy” praised by Rolling Stone earlier this year) is coming to town for a live show in support of her debut album, Lush. Since its launch in June earlier this year, the album has gotten loads of love from music critics for its lyrics (smart and deep AF) and Jordan’s ability to at once evoke the best of indie rock while also breathing some freshness into the sound.

7.30-10.30pm at EBX Live Space. $50 general admission. 

Orchids of the Andes

Get a glimpse of orchids from the Andes at Gardens by the Bay, with 3,000 blooms of 85 types scattered across Inca ruins, a volcano, a cavern, waterfalls, and the famous mountain range.

Until Mar 24; daily 9am-9pm at Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay. Admission fee applies.

Tiki-Lah

From one island paradise to another, this Polynesian party pairs bar bites like BBQ duck baos, spicy salmon tacos, and chicken skewers with cocktails such as Pandan Highball, Captain Maitai, and CLV Singapore Sling.

Saturday, Oct 13

Barefoot Tiki Nights: Escape to Neverland

Beachfront dancing, merrymakers all costumed up, beats by DJs Orio Leshem and Obas Nenor, and drinks by the daybeds at this chill shindig.

6pm-late at Tanjong Beach Club. Free. 

GameStart

The game convention returns with international gaming stars and experts like Motohiro Okubo, Kaname Fujioka, Yuya Tokuda, and Kenny Omega, as well as tournaments for 10 games with competitors coming to town from all over the globe.

National Museum of Singapore 131st Anniversary Celebrations

Celebrate with the national museum as it commemorates its 131st birthday with live music performances, building tours, craft activities, and more.

Sunday, Oct 14

Taste of Japan 

Take a trip through some of Japan’s best breweries and distilleries with sake and sochu tastings complemented by a culinary collaboration by the chefs of Tippling Club, Japan’s Chisoh Nakamura, and Cut by Wolfgang Puck.

3pm-9pm at Cut by Wolfgang Puck. $50.

The Quayside Pup Club

This animated dog pop-up station by Talya’s Sorvete offers canine-friendly, lactose-free ice cream, or ‘pupsicles’, for your furry friend, to help ‘em beat the heat. Flavors include blueberry, honey mango, and strawberry, with toppings like peanut butter and strawberry.

Every second Sunday; 11am-4pm at Quayside, Robertson Quay. Free.
