Friday, June 22

Installation in Progress

Explore the idea of exhibitions and exhibition-making through the view of the Singapore Art Museum’s history, from when it first opened in 1996 to its evolution over the years to producing more than 300 exhibitions to date.

Jeremy Sharma: Conversions

The first exhibition by artist and McNally School of Fine Arts lecturer Jeremy Sharma showcases his film and video work that delve into the relationship between art, travel, contingency, and the dynamics of family life.

Until July 25; Tues-Sun noon-7pm at Brother Joseph McNally Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, LASALLE College of the Arts. Free.

Milo Gao Kosong Pit Stop

If you’d like to try the newly launched Milo Gao Kosong — apparently the world’s first Milo powder with zero added table sugar, an idea that came to life after a question posed by President Halimah Yacob — swing by the pit stop at Plaza Singapura for a cup. You could even rub shoulders with Singaporean Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling on June 24 from 4pm to 6pm. If you’ve got good shoulder strength to push past all the eager fans, that is.

TGIF Music Station

Every first and third Friday of the month sees TGIF Music Station showcasing up-and-coming musicians performing 45-minute shows at SCCC.

12:30pm-7:30pm at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. Free. 

The Nomad Series

The Ottomani’s new Nomad Series brings together internationally renowned chefs and menus featuring their own interpretations of Middle Eastern cuisine, with names such as Jason Licker, Alejandro Saravia, Ben Spalding, Coskun Uysal, Eelke Plasmeijer, Ivan Brehm, and Tim Butler on the line-up.

Until early 2019 at The Ottomani. 

The Pilot Project

This three-day pop-up highlights over 20 local brands founded by entrepreneurs under 35, including the likes of Rickshaw Coffee, The Sustainability Project, Wild Butter Co, Brain Juice Collective, Udders, and The Everyday Club. Also expect free yoga sessions, a pop-up cinema, and performances by local musicians.

Unchartered Territories

This blind wine tasting dinner at Winederlust showcases four labels from various parts of the world, hosted by sommeliers Amir and Shah.

7pm at Winederlust. $98/four-course dinner. 

 

Saturday, June 23

$1 Carnival – Reunion Fun

Yishun Park Hawker Centre’s carnival features sample portions of its stalls’ signature dishes for just $1, with everything from chicken porridge by Li Fang Congee to prawn paste chicken wings by Ah Tan Wings to prawn omelette rice by Seafood Pirates. There’ll also be game stations, a flea market, and a photo booth in the area.

11am-5pm at Yishun Park Hawker Centre. Free. 

Art Day Out! x The School Holidays Edition

This June holidays edition has interaction exhibitions, workshops, outdoor sculptures, and retail corners like a garage sale by Supermama.

2pm-7pm at Gillman Barracks. Free.

Barefoot Tiki Nights: Flochella

Head to the beach for a tiki night with seafood nibbles, floats by the pool, and summer grooves by Fat Fish Familia DJ Orio Leshem. Tropical-themed outfits are encouraged.

7pm-late at Tanjong Beach Club. 

Code of Silence

The game is afoot — it’s February 1942, and the commanders of Malaya Command are in talks over the imminent fall of Singapore. Time is running out, and you have to activate a mysterious protocol to call the secret agents of Force 136 for help. Will you succeed before the Japanese arrive?

5:30pm, 7:30pm & 9pm at The Battlebox, Fort Canning Park. $28.

International Music Day

Storytelling sessions, fun times with karaoke, workshops on the basics of music-making and musical theater, silent movie screenings, choir performances, and more.

10:30am-7pm at Alliance Française de Singapour. Free, with ticketed events. 

Mannequins EP Launch Show

Local band Mannequins’ new EP Four has dropped, and the rock outfit is putting together a show with guest performers Bouncy Castles, Causeway Youth, Groove Gurus, Knightingale, False Plaintiff, and Suneater.

4pm-10pm at SLED Productions x Decline. $10.

Opera in the Park

Take in the cool breezes of the Botanic Gardens at this outdoor performance by the Singapore Lyric Opera, which pays tribute to composers Charles Gounod and Leonard Bernstein.

6pm at Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, Singapore Botanic Gardens. Free. 

Sake Festival Singapore

Browse through more than 450 labels of Japanese alcohol from 42 sake breweries across the country, including seasonal sake, shochu, premium umeshus, fruit liquors, and more.

1pm-6pm at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, Summit 1, L3. $40.

Venus Rising

It’s all about female DJs bringing the beats at this EDM fest, with names from across the globe helming the decks, including Christina Novelli and DJ Shortee.

7pm-late at Siloso Beach, Sentosa. $58, includes one beer. 

Yoga Fiesta

In what’s apparently the first stop of a festival across Southeast Asia, this event brings together a bunch of yoga fusion activities, such as yoga with dogs, yogalates, dance yoga, and more.

Noon-9:30pm at Palawan Green, Sentosa. $65.

Wind Walkers: Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests

The first Southeast Asian exhibition of Dutch sculptor Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests features 13 of his majestic, wind-powered machines, from past “fossils” to new creations.

Until Sept 30; daily 10am-7pm at ArtScience Museum. Adults $14-$17, seniors/students/children $10-$12.

Sunday Flower Market

Local florist Hello Flowers gets its own monthly pop-up flower market at Quayside, displaying seasonal bloom bouquets (from $25) and a DIY potpourri station with dried petals and organic essential oils, as well as hosting workshops on the art of floral arrangement.

Last Sunday of every month; 11am-4pm at Quayside.
