Friday, June 21

Green Fashion at One Raffles Place

In an attempt to get the CBD workers on board with a sustainable shopping lifestyle, the mall is bringing in a pop-up from eco-friendly brand Qlothè, partnering with The Fashion Pulpit for a swap drive, and offering workshops on making DIY tote bags and terrariums.

Until July 23; various timings at L2 One Raffles Place shopping mall. Free entry.

Portrait of Home

Veteran local photographer Lim Kwong Ling displays his black and white images of Singapore during its post-independence days in the ’60s and ’70s, depicting landscapes, iconic landmarks, street scenes, and even family photos at the exhibition.

Until July 28; Tues-Sat noon-7pn, Sun noon-4pm at Chapel Gallery, Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film. Free entry.

Rainforest Lumina

The Singapore Zoo gets lit once again for season two of Rainforest Lumina, which highlights the sights, sounds, and scents of the rainforest at the wildlife park for a limited time. Starting at 7:30pm after the animals retire for the day, the experience takes place over a 1km trail with storytelling elements set to the theme of “We Are One.”

Daily 7:30pm-midnight at Singapore Zoo. Admission fees apply.

Six Talents Art Exhibition

This exhibition features the work of six artists in the local scene and their interpretations of nature, culture, people, and cityscapes.

Until June 23; daily 10am-10pm at Ion Art gallery, Ion Orchard.

StoryFest: International Storytelling Festival Singapore

The third edition of StoryFest returns to spotlight the best in artistic and applied storytelling across the theme of “Make Believe.” Expect to be enchanted by stories fantastical and mythical, though at times tragic and eerie, by local and international storytellers. Other activities include a visual storytelling exhibition based on mythical female characters in the form of clay effigies.

Until June 24; various timings at The Arts House.

The Great Singapore Street Pop Up

The shopping stretch brings in additional retail and F&B booths this month with over 40 vendors hawking everything from sportswear and home furnishings to vintage collectibles and cosmetics to jewelry and crafts. Brands on showcase include Green Genie, Pick A Plant, The Golden Barber, The Flying Squirrel, and The Kettle Gourmet.

Until June 30; daily 11am-10pm at Orchard Road.

 

Saturday, June 22

A Design Film Festival: Kusama Infinity

The preview event for this year’s A Design Film Festival will screen Kusama: Infinity, an exploration of artist Yayoi Kusama and her life and art over six decades, showing how she overcame the odds to bring her works to the world.

Various timings from 3pm-10pm at Capitol Theatre. 

Brew: Block Party Edition

What started out as a music initiative by Darker Than Wax and Papa Palheta will return with a super-sized block party this weekend, taking to the streets of Jalan Besar to dish out coffee, craft beer, and light bites. Film production house Fourthree will present visual projections of the neighborhood’s architecture, while the music line-up features the likes of Unos, Funk Bstrd, Rah, and Daryl Knows.

3pm-10pm at Jalan Besar. Free entry.

Goodman Open House

The annual family-friendly arts fest returns with workshops and performances on music and movement, sing-along and storytelling sessions, face painting and caricature drawing activities, and loads more.

11am-5pm at Goodman Arts Centre. Free entry.

Ink & Art

Popular local tattoo studio Traditions Tattoo Collective will feature mystery tattoo and tattoo showcases at The Cathay this weekend. If you’re keen to get a surprise ink, you’ll have to spend a minimum of $80 on two receipts at any shop in the mall, pick from a series of words, and watch how artists Lionel Ng and Lee Wai Leng interpret them into art. Those unwilling to commit to something permanent can stop by Out & Ink for its temporary tattoos or check out music performances by The Moon House, Genesis Keefer, and YanHui.

Ola Pets Adoption Pawty

The adoption drive at Sentosa features games, lucky draws, and promos for humans and pets, with talks on how to be a pet parent by SPCA Singapore.

Noon-5pm at Ola Beach Club. Free entry.

Sake Festival Singapore

Touted as Southeast Asia’s largest gathering of sakes and Japanese liquors, the fair returns with more than 450 labels from small-batch producers and well-known breweries. As you sip your way through the samples, you can also get Japanese dishes at the food booths in the hall.

1pm-6pm at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre Hall 406. $40.

Whabby! Music Carnival

Whabby! Music, a “global online music community” for Singaporean artists, is launching its first music, dance, art, and food carnival at *Scape. More than 10 bands, including Axel Brizzy, Flame of the Forest, and Knightingale, will take the stage to perform, alongside fringe activities like games and a market that hosts local crafters and F&B brands.

Sunday, June 23

Beer-Yani

Grab a pint of craft beer from local brand Binjai Brew to go with your plant-based jackfruit biryani meal at Flying Monkey. Also, in the name of sustainable living, customers are encouraged to bring their own cups and cutlery, although the eatery will also provide biodegradable options.
