A quick digest of the coolest weekend happenings in Singapore.


Friday, June 2

DBS Marina Regatta 2017

The regatta returns to Marina Bay for a weekend of activities including Singapore’s largest inflatable water obstacle course, the island’s only pop-up urban beach, an interactive art experience, a food village filled with bites by Labyrinth, Garçons, and The BellJar, a 9m-tall play dome, and massive games like Giant Jenga and Giant Pick Up Sticks. Of course, there’ll also be dragon boating competitions and 18m-tall mega sailboats in the water.

Ghost Nets of the Ocean

Taking inspiration from the ocean and tales of indigenous island life, this marine-themed art installation features more than 80 sculptures of fish, turtles, squids, jellyfish and corals woven from ghost nets.

Until Aug 6; daily 10am-7pm (till 9pm on Fridays) at Asian Civilisations Museum. Free.

Mexican Film Festival 2017

In collab with the Embassy of Mexico, The Projector is hosting the Mexican Film Festival for the first time, with titles like Desert, You’ll Know What To Do With Me, Bleak Street, Mr. Pig and Gueros.

Until June 4; various times at The Projector. $11.50.

Monti Italian Street Food Fest

Head over to the waterfront Italian restaurant for a food fest with six stations offering everything from porchetta and pizzas to risotto finished in a parmesan cheese wheel ($5-$10).

Until June 3; 5pm-11pm at open air rooftop terrace at Monti.

Open Stage

Soothe your soul with sweet tunes by local musicians like Gayle Nerva & The Mommashop, Disco Hue, and Sezairi Sezali by the waterfront.

7pm-10pm at Event Plaza at Marina Bay Sands. Free.

 

Spice Trail

Explore the ‘spice trail’ with this afternoon tea menu, where you’ll be served bites of anise marinated prawn with poached pear and pineapple and lemongrass compote on black pepper choux, as well as a cup of masala spiced tea with aloe.

Until June 30; daily 3pm-5pm, with extra 12.30pm-2.30pm seating on weekends and public holidays, at Axis Bar and Lounge, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore. $42.

The Irish Long Weekend Festival

Get into the Irish spirit with Irish traditional and contemporary melodies by Mike Spinx, Craic A Tau and Gan Ainm, as well as $10 specials on Irish drinks like Guinness and Magners.

Until June 5 at McGettigan’s Clarke Quay. Free. 

The PC Show 2017

Get your geek on at the annual tech and electronics fair, where brands like Dell, Creative, HP, Samsung, Courts and Lenovo will be present to offer you deals and promos. There’s also be a GG Gaming Zone for gamers to check out the latest and greatest.

Until June 4; noon-9pm at Halls A-C, Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre. Free.

The White Beach Party

Dress in your best ‘white beach chic’ (whatever that means) for a two-day Summertime Madness party at the sky-high urban beach. As you dance to tunes by the DJs, check out roving acts like LED twirlers and have a ball of a time with the beach toys scattered around.

Until June 3; 6pm-late at 1-Altitude. 6pm-9pm $35, includes two drinks; 9pm onwards $40, includes two drinks. 

 

 

Sunday, June 4

Meat Smith BBQ Pop Up

Swing by River Valley for good old American-style BBQ, with meats, sandwiches, beers on ice and good vibes.

11am-3pm at Little Farms Valley Point.
