Maggie Joan’s: Chef Maksut Askar Kitchen Takeover

For two nights, chef Maksut Askar, the owner of famous Istanbul restaurant Neolokal, will helm the kitchen at Maggie Joan’s to present Turkish recipes such as ahtapot gambilya, aryan asi and tirit katmer.

Until Feb 25; various seatings at Maggie Joan’s. $95/person.

Say it with Love 2017

V-day may be over, but you can still celebrate the fact that love is all around at Gardens by the Bay. Activities include a picnic at The Meadow, an art jamming sesh, an interactive glow-in-the-dark art installation, retail booths run by social enterprises, workshops and performances by musicians and LED stiltwalkers.

Until Feb 25; 6.30pm-10.30pm at Gardens by the Bay. Free, with ticketed events.

Singapore Cult & Underground Film Festival 2017

From horror flicks to Blaxploitation tales to a documentary on rock ‘n’ roll legends The Stooges, this alternative film fest has an eclectic line-up for all you movie buffs.

Until Feb 26; various timings at Alliance Française de Singapour. $13.

The Courtyard

Go to town for the closing of the Singapore Biennale 2016: An Atlas of Mirrors. With the museum extending its opening hours, there’ll be beats by Shigeki, Maurice Simon, Oliver Osborne and Mr Has, as the national monument transforms into a nightlife spectacle.

7pm-1am at Singapore Art Museum. Free.

 

Saturday, Feb 25

Buy SingLit Festival 2017

The inaugural fest offers up the best of the local publishing scene, with the likes of Epigram Books, Ethos Books, Marshall Cavendish Education, Math Paper Press, Magpie Magazines and more participating. Be prepared to snatch up all those SingLit titles you’ve been eyeing.

Until Feb 26; 10am-7pm at Gillman Barracks. Free.

 

Sunday, Feb 26

Brunch Bandits Global South: Mexicana x Chimichanga

Who’s ready for a Mexican brunch complete with jugs of booze? Yep, you heard that right. Free flow frozen margaritas are coming your way this weekend with Brunch Bandits’ first event in its Global South series. Expect plates of ceviche, tacos and heaps of avocado dishes to stuff your face with in between margarita throwdowns.

11am-3pm at Chimichanga. $55-$120.

The Stop Art Market

Another closing party for the Singapore Biennale, this art market by The Local People features locally-made (or designed) items, as well as munchies like poké bowls by Pololi, beef bowls by Waa Cow, atas goreng pisang by Going Bananas and loads more. Also look out for an eco-friendly printing booth, roving street magicians and a dunking machine where you’ll get to pay $5 to dunk people famous in the online world like Naomi Neo and Audrey Goh — for charity, of course.

11am-6pm at Singapore Art Museum. Free.
