Friday, Aug 23

Baybeats 

The island’s largest free alternative music fest returns for its 18th edition, with the sounds of indie rock, hip hop, and more. Local bands to look out for include Stopgap, Rudra, Lew, The New Modern Lights, No Rest For The Weary, Cinnamon Persimmon, and Mannequins, while regional acts include Malaysia’s Golden Mammoth, Indonesia’s Reality Club and Speak Up, Slapshock from the Philippines, and Moja from Japan.

Emonightsg: The 3rd Anniversary

The popular emo music party celebrates its third year of rocking out with more alt rock tunes for you to dance late into the night.

Entwine: Maybank Women Eco-Weavers meets Southeast Asian Artists Exhibition

This traveling display of artworks by six established Southeast Asian artists takes inspiration from the region’s weaving heritage. At the showcase, you’ll get a peek at the livelihood and creative talents of traditional weavers living in rural areas of Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia.

Until Sept 8; daily 10am-7pm at National Museum, The Concourse. 

Flavors of Australia Wine Dinner

The one-off wine dinner curated by Chef David, the culinary director of Capella Singapore, and Brendan Carr, winemaker at Xanadu Wines, features a four-course degustation menu made with ingredients from Australia’s various regions, paired with Margaret River wines. Dishes on the line-up include smoked petuna ocean trout and wagyu beef cheek.

7pm at The Knolls, Capella Singapore. $148/person with wine pairing.

For Love Shines: An Ode to 200 Years of Philanthropy in Singapore

National Day may be over, but Singapore Bicentennial events continue on, like this exhibition spotlighting 200 years of philanthropy in the country, taking details off eight research papers from 1819 to 2019. The showcase is divided into five eras, from the 19th century colonial times, when efforts were focused on primary needs like basic healthcare, to the post-war and nationalism period, to the nation-building era with social services for those in need.

Until Oct 31; weekdays 8:30am-9pm, weekends and PH 11am-5pm at Temasek Shophouse. Free.

Singapore Night Festival

The festival returns for two weekends this month, lighting up the facade of museums and bringing roving acts to the streets. Highlights include 16 light art works scattered around the Bras Basah.Bugis area and Argentinean troupe Fuerza Bruta’s 360-degree show, which features suspended “stages”, aerial acts, and bucket loads of confetti.

The KrisShop Exhibition

Singapore Airlines’ travel retailer KrisShop has undergone a rebranding, and it’s showing off new initiatives at an interactive pop-up exhibition this weekend. Expect to see an LED installation room, a spotlight on homegrown brands, a concept store with various services and wellness treatments, and more.

The Pintxos Exchange

Over the weekend, you’ll get to try three pintxos from two of the most popular pintxo bars in the Basque city of San Sebastian, along with items from the bar’s regular menu. The special dishes include bacalao with green beans and scallops with ajoblanco from Casa Urola, as well as pintxo de foie from Txuleta bar and restaurant.

VivoCity’s Curious Adventures in Wonderland

For the Mid-Autumn festival, the mall is putting up five whimsical lantern zones at its Sky Park for visitors to tumble down the rabbit hole into an illuminated realm. The themes include the Tunnel of Soldiers, A Mad Tea Party, and The Queen’s Castle.

Saturday, Aug 24

Beach Cleanup at East Coast Park

As part of Potato Head Singapore’s fifth year celebrations in Singapore, it’s organizing a beach clean up this weekend, in an attempt to rid the shores of plastic and waste. It’s hoping to gather 500 volunteers and clear up 5,000kg of trash.

9am-12:30pm at Constant Wind, 11 Changi Coast Walk. 

Little Farms Holland Village Anniversary

The fourth outlet of Little Farms has turned one, and it’s offering deals and promos for the weekend. Activities include face painting and balloon sculpting for the little ones.

YoRipe & Friends Farmers’ Market

At this farmers’ market, you’ll find goods by vendors like Kind Kones (vegan ice cream), Kroodi (vegan cheese), LVL (plant-based superfood powders), The Little Rice Company (low GI rice), and lots more.

3pm-8pm at Core Collective Dempsey. Free.

 

Sunday, Aug 25

Backyard BBQ & Beats

Jam at Siri House opens up its backyard for its first BBQ party, with DJs Drem and Arms1 from the Matteblacc Collective spinning the beats. The menu includes grilled meat and seafood platters, draught beers, and more.

11:30am-9pm at Siri House at Dempsey. Free entry.

Pour & Upcycling Workshop

This Hush Candle workshop will be hosted on a monthly basis, turning old or unwanted jars, bowls, or containers into upcycled candles. Customers can walk in on the day itself and pay a fee based on the volumetric weight of the jar they’ve brought or chosen from the donated pool.

10am-3pm at The Botany at Robertson Quay. $20/100ml jar or vessel.
