A quick digest of the coolest weekend happenings in Singapore.


Friday, Aug 17

Baybeats

Now in its 17th edition, the alt music festival celebrates the final hurrah for its Powerhouse Stage along the waterfront (to make way for Esplanade’s new theater that will begin construction in 2019) with performances by Caracal, Wormrot, and The Full Pledge Munkees, as well as a new collab with Emo Night SG for a late night party at Esplanade Annexe Studio.

Plus, look out for six local bands making their debut at the fest this year: Trust the Chaos, Glassmouth, Osr313, Dreebsby, Coming Up Roses, and Sangriento.

Beyond Burger at Grand Hyatt Singapore

Grand Hyatt Singapore’s mezza9 will be the first in Southeast Asia to serve up American brand Beyond Burger’s plant-based, gluten-free, and soy-free patty creations at a food truck in the hotel’s driveway this weekend. Two options ($10 each) feature on the menu: Classic Cheese, with vegan cheddar and mayo, pickled gherkin, and mustard on brioche, and Modern Asian, with avocado, furikake, sriracha, wasabi mayo, and Asian slaw on a corn bun. From Aug 20, the burgers will be available at the restaurant ($25 each) for lunch and dinner.

Harry Potter Quiz Night

Round up your fellow Muggles and toss your name into the running for the most knowledgeable Potterhead in Singapore at this Harry Potter trivia night, where you’ll be quizzed about all sorts of magical enchantments and more.

Singapore Night Festival

Saturday, Aug 18

A Whale of a Tale

Humpback is turning three, and it wants merrymakers to come party with happy hour oysters, a special one-day menu, cocktails galore, and more.

3pm, 5pm, 7pm & 9pm at Humpback. 

Best Friends Adoption Day

In partnership with local animal welfare groups, AVA, and ACRES, Wildlife Reserves Singapore is helping the furry residents of Singapore find their forever home. The adoption drive is for cats, dogs, rabbits, and hamsters, and will include activities such as animal presentations and musical performances.

10am-4pm at Safari Square, just outside Singapore Zoo. Free.

CÉ LA VI Sky High Brunch

Take to the skies for a brunch spread of kim chi sliders, smoked pork ribs, freshly shucked oysters, dim sum bites, and more, complemented by life-sized games, chill beats, and tropical vibes.

Jigger & Pony Sneak Preview Pop-up

We only recently bid farewell to Jigger & Pony’s space at Amoy Street, but the cocktail bar is already offering a sneak peak at its upcoming menu for its new spot in Amara Singapore. To be one of the first to preview what it’s shaking up, swing by for renditions of martinis, Asian classics, and more.

Kinki x Eatmepoptart: The Upside Down

The rooftop bar is throwing a Mexican fiesta with tequila deals, pinatas to bash, plenty of sombreros, and the beats of indie rock, disco, alt rock, and more.

Maker Faire Singapore

The two-day tech fair hosts more than 300 booths featuring activities, projects, and tools that revolve around science, technology, engineering, art, and maths.

Pick Up The Tab

The Play Project by Stefen Chow

Hear from Chow about his initiative The Play Project, done with his partner, where they photographed 100 playgrounds across Singapore with their drone as an homage to their childhood play spaces.

Sunday, Aug 19

Farmers and Healers

Open Farm Community brings its weekend market into a different direction to feature, well, farmers and healers. Expect a sonic flow yoga and sound meditation session in the morning, calligraphy and embroidery workshops, a retail market with vendors like VitaJuwel, Plantation, Oo La Lab, and Bushwick Biotech, as well as bites and cold brew coffee by Forty Hands, Grounded by CMCR, boCHINche, and Tippling Club.
