Sharp Images is a video production house that makes corporate videos and hopes to one day move on to commercials and films. It’s also the fictional focus of a witty new mockumentary called Average Guys.

Just check out some of the amusing “client testimonies” for the company below.

Produced by local video agency The Hummingbird Co, the six-part web series releases episodes every week, each one focusing on the fictional escapades of a five-person crew whose “lofty ambitions are matched only by their absurdity”.

In short, it’s kind of like the Singaporean version of The Office, with deadpan hilarity and references to topics close to the hearts of Singaporeans. Imitations of tropes from The Office might be on the heavy side, but hey, so was Parks and Recreation before it found its own amazing groove in its second season.

Watch the trailer for a quick glimpse of what to expect.

The brainchild of filmmaking graduate Cheng Chai Hong, Average Guys was conceptualized during his National Service days between 2010 and 2012, in an aim to do something different from the conservative storytelling seen on local TV. And for those of you who think some of the faces look familiar, the series stars Channel 8 actress/model Jasmine Sim (Dream Coder, When Duty Calls) and theatre actor Thomas Pang (Romeo and Juliet, Tribes).

But even though the quirky characters may be easily-relatable everyday types (albeit slightly exaggerated), the series isn’t as ordinary as its name appears. With a light-hearted, humorous approach, the satirical show spotlights serious issues like sexual harassment and racial/gender stereotypes in an actually comedic manner. Mediacorp’s showrunners could probably learn a lot from these guys.

Have a look at the first episode below — and if you like what you see, keep tabs on the Average Guys SG Youtube page for new episodes every week.
