As more of us start to go green, retailers are taking notice of our eco-conscious tendencies. You may have heard of Australian import Scoop Wholefoods bringing its environmentally-friendly supermarket concept to Tanglin Mall recently, but now, its mate from Down Under is set to debut in Singapore too, opening at Cluny Court later this month.
Touted as Australia’s biggest retailer of its kind, The Source Bulk Foods was founded in 2012 by a husband-and-wife duo who ditched their corporate careers in Sydney for a bucolic life near Byron Bay. It’s since paved the way as a go-to joint for proponents of sustainable living, working with boutique farms and producers to fill its bins with quality products. The business has also expanded in the last couple years to more than 50 stores across its home country, as well as New Zealand and the UK.
For those new to the waste-free shopping experience, all you have to do is bring your own reusable containers and jars to The Source and pack ’em full with as much (or as little) ingredients as you want. The company aims to minimise food waste and single-use plastics, encouraging customers to buy just the amount they need and charging each item by weight.
When the store opens at the end of July, along with its online platform (for those who prefer to shop from home), it’ll offer more than 350 food and household products, including gluten-free and vegan options. Highlights to stock your kitchen with include coconut curry lentil soup mix, locally-brewed kombucha, and snacks such as protein balls and dark chocolate freeze dried strawberries.
You can also give your home a green makeover with packaging-free household goods like stainless steel lunch boxes and coffee cups, handmade coconut soap and shampoo bars, and reusable calico bags for grocery shopping.
The Source Bulk Foods opens in late July at #01-05A Cluny Court, 501 Bukit Timah Rd.
