Subscription boxes are aplenty in Singapore — who can say no to monthly gifts, right? From beauty products and clothes to snacks and coffee, there’s really no lack of this service on our shores. But Sonder Social sets itself apart from the crowd by carrying ethical and sustainable products sourced from around Asia Pacific.
The newly-launched social enterprise — apparently the first of its kind in the region — collaborates with fair trade and socially conscious small businesses to spotlight their products to customers. Set up by three Singaporean women, every element of the quarterly subscription box service strives to be different — from its recyclable box to its biodegradable fillers to the items within.
Each package will feature six lifestyle products, ranging from jewelry and clothing to food and homeware; and the first box, set to the theme of “Gratitude”, will be delivered by mid-December. One of the co-founders revealed that the current box includes products by an enterprise that “provides training and employment for women rescued from sex trafficking in India”, while another “engages with tribal artisanal communities in Vietnam to preserve ethnic cultures”.
But since the site doesn’t exactly specify what items you’ll receive — besides a couple of participating brands like Bope Shop and Love Lusie — you’ll just have to be surprised by whatever lands on your doorstep before Christmas.
As for the price tag, you’ll have to cough up US$79 (S$107) if you pay quarterly — or US$69 (S$93) if you pay for four boxes upfront annually.
