We don’t have to tell you Marvel devotees that your latest Netflix show, Iron Fist, is taking a beating left and right by critics for being a downright terrible show, on top of the whole cultural appropriation issue.
But bless Netflix for trying its darnedest to make Iron Fist happen.
The streaming giant’s latest marketing stunt involved none other than Singapore’s own actor/singer Benjamin Kheng, who was roped in to do a theme song for the show.
Much effort was put into the whole thing. Three of the show’s stars — Finn Jones, Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey — were brought to Chinatown (but of course) so that Kheng could croon his song to them and have them join in the cheesy shenanigans. It’s cute, we suppose. Watch the vid here.
Netizens, however, weren’t convinced by the soft punch of a promo, and used the opportunity to politely reassert their dissatisfaction with Iron Fist.
As Bandwagon rightfully pointed out, the show’s Meachum siblings were sporting enough to play along with Kheng, but the man under fire for failing to flesh out one of Marvel Comics’ best martial artists seemed relatively detached.
And perhaps he was, for a reason. You see, Jones deleted his Twitter account after an extensive debate with a lady who called him out for tweeting on fair representation in media — despite him acting in a culturally questionable role. Said lady was none other than Asyiqin Haron, the Singaporean creative director of Geeks of Color.

So you can see why Jones was kinda reserved that day. Especially since the Singaporean press conference Netflix held for the cast raised more than a few eyebrows for its ban on questions from the media.
