Ikea will open its third outlet in Singapore at the Jem shopping center next year, the Swedish furniture retailer announced today.
Touted as a “concept store” spanning 6,500sqm across three floors, it will be smaller than its Alexandra Road and Tampines outlets and be the first located inside a mall. Though it won’t have a playground or on-site warehouse, it will serve its popular Swedish meatballs and fried chicken wings.
“This will be the first time we are establishing a smaller IKEA store format as a tenant within a shopping centre in this region. There are only a few other IKEA stores like it in the world today!” Ikea retail director for Singapore and Vietnam Jaap Doornbos said in a press release.
No specific date or quarter was announced for when it would open.
Mall landlord Lendlease welcomed the news in its own statement.
“We are excited to be partnering with an innovative brand like IKEA and look forward to bringing a first-to-market lifestyle concept to our shoppers,” managing director Ng Hsueh Ling said.
