It’s pretty simple — Barterli is a community marketplace for fellow book lovers to get together and make exchanges or barters (get it?). With the app, you have the freedom to buy books at a hugely discounted rate or barter your old titles, which sure beats paying for books at full price.
Here’s how the app works.
Feel free to scroll down the list of genres you’re interested in, though you’ll find that literally anything can be listed as one. Sure, Political Science, Computers and Electronic Commerce can feasibly pass off as genres of their own – though they’re more of “subjects” than anything else, really – but then you get truly bizarre “genres” such as character names like ‘Becky’ and ‘Edward’.
Oh, and if you’re looking for science fiction books, the genre doesn’t exist within the app’s database. Well, for now at least (pardon our disappointment, we’re huge sci-fi fans). Perhaps there aren’t any books within the list that fit the genre currently. Anyway, the app also has a blog section that you’re free to peruse on your way to work or play – articles include titles like ’10 Benefits of Reading’ and ‘Fiction vs Literature’.
All in all, the app is worth a shot for budget conscious readers, as the prices of books here start from as low as $2 (or even free on occasion) and go up to about $18. The database contains thousands of books across various genres, and it’s easy to use, although what’s available is heavily dependent on the community.
As they say, one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.
The app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
