Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market coming to Singapore for 3 months

Bangkok’s popular Chatuchak Weekend Market is coming to Singapore’s The Grandstand in Bukit Timah for three months early next year.

Set to take place February to May, the event will feature hundreds of vendors — including some from Thailand — selling clothing, antiques, handicrafts, food, drinks and more, according to an online announcement.

More than 600 businesses had expressed interest in showing their wares as of last week, organizers said. There’s only space for 200, so vendors will be rotated every week.

Attendees can expect free parking and shuttle rides to and from the venue.

Singapore’s Chatuchak will definitely be tiny in comparison to the real thing in Bangkok, where more than 15,000 stalls sprawl over a massive area divided into about 30 different sections. Having been around since the 1940s, it might as well be called “the OG” of such markets.

Nevertheless, having it in Singapore will allow locals, especially those who have never been to Chatuchak, a taste of what the market is all about and how different it is from Artbox, a more upscale Thai market that landed in Singapore three years ago.

The latest and third edition of Artbox Singapore ended two weeks ago at the Turf Club in Kranji and featured half the number of vendors that Chatuchak Singapore is promising.

Excited for Singapore’s very own Chatuchak? Brace for crowds and pray for good weather.
