Aqua of ‘Barbie Girl’ fame to return to Singapore 18 years since they last played here

Look, we know the ‘in’ thing these days is to revive things from the ‘90s (re: Vaporwave, denim, plaid, cassettes, virtual reality, etc), but getting Aqua to perform here may be stretching our nostalgic fetishism a wee bit too far.

Yes, that Aqua. The Danish Eurodance group behind ‘Barbie Girl’ and other songs that populated those Now That’s What I Call Music! compilations alongside Vengaboys and Spice Girls.

Take a trip down the memory lane of your trashiest days, friends, for Aqua will actually be performing in Singapore on Nov 25 at The Star Performing Arts Centre. It’s all part of their 20th Anniversary Tour (yeah, you feel old now, don’t you) — 20 years on since their frustratingly catchy hit and 18 years since they last dropped by our shores.

Oh, you mean you didn’t know they played here before? Why don’t we refresh you with some grainy footage of their performance at the now-defunct ah beng disco/club Sparks.

If you’re wistful enough to dispense some money for Eurodance (that didn’t age well at all), tickets to the Aqua concert are going on sale on June 27 via Sistic from $98 to $168. More details available on the Facebook event page.
