Another one bites the dust: American Eagle Outfitters to exit Singapore by end-Feb

We’ve seen brands come and go in our fickle retail scene — here’s another one that’s leaving Singapore for good. Regular customers of American Eagle Outfitters will be dismayed to find out that the American fashion label will exit our market by the end of the month.

According to The Straits Times, the brand’s flagship outlet at Vivocity just ceased operations on Wednesday, while its Suntec City store will shutter for good on Feb. 28. But the silver lining of it all is the closing down sale currently going on — so grab all the jeans and tees there while you still can.

Apparently, American Eagle Outfitters was brought to our shores by local company Star 360 Holdings — which also reps Onitsuka Tiger, Birkenstock, and Cole Haan here — less than three years ago.

A spokesman for subsidiary Trendz 360 explained that the company would be “refocusing on its strategic business in footwear both in Singapore and around the region” instead.

Better say your goodbyes soon, just like you’ve been doing with Gap and Banana Republic, both of which are also leaving us.
