More than 5,000 fans turned up to see Hong Kong martial artist Donnie Yen in Tampines last night.
The 56-year-old actor was in town to kick off a promotional tour for his latest movie, Ip Man 4, the final installation of the biopic series.
“I want to thank all the Tampines residents, everybody who came out here to support me and to anticipate the last episode of Ip Man,” Yen, decked in red and white, said.
Yen stars as Wing Chun grandmaster and Bruce Lee’s teacher Ip Man. The movie opens Dec. 20 in Singapore.
“I really appreciate from the bottom of my heart as an actor as a filmmaker. You know, sometimes we strive for perfection, but the perfections cannot be perfect without the love from all of you.”
Yen was at the Our Tampines Hub sports and leisure complex with his wife Cissy Wang.
Moments before his arrival, fans were treated to screenings of the earlier Ip Man installments as well as a martial arts demonstration. Then the crowd roared as Yen and Wang appeared on a descending escalator, surrounded by bodyguards. Yen also shook hands with fans and signed autographs as he walked to the stage.
On stage, the star was interviewed in Chinese before wrapping up the meet-and-greet with a selfie.
Yen also today thanked fans via Instagram for the overwhelming turnout.
