A top New York speakeasy is opening its first overseas outpost at Amoy Street

Seems like great things are in store for our cocktail scene this year. First, 28 HongKong Street took the crowning spot at the Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards. Eight other local watering holes, including Jigger & Pony, Manhattan Bar and Operation Dagger also made the list, doing us proud.

Now there’s news of a famous New York prohibition-style bar setting up its first outlet outside the state in Singapore. Clinching fourth place on last year’s list of World’s 50 Best Bars, Employees Only has made waves in the cocktail circuit for over a decade. The Facebook page for its Singapore outpost describes the space as “a legitimate place for illegitimate people”, and teases its impending arrival with a simple “COMING SOON”, without offering any other tidbits.

From what we can gather, Employees Only will be at 112 Amoy Street, in the space vacated by a Hokkien restaurant, and surrounded by names like The Spiffy Dapper and Sugarhall. Principal bartender Steve Schneider, along with co-founder Igor Hadzismajlovic and executive chef Julia Jaksic will make their way here to run the bar.

If the New York space is anything to go by, here’s a glimpse of what to expect:
