If Ang Mo Kio’s your ‘hood, you’re in luck. With the influx of cool cafes around the area in recent times, the heartland community has been getting a hip makeover.
One of the places to check out is The Workbench Bistro — besides your regular pastas, fries and burgers (with a salted egg twist), the menu serves up waffles that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere. We’re talkin’ s’moreffles — yes, they’re a hybrid of s’mores and waffles, and they’re definitely on the indulgent side.
First off, the chocolate s’moreffles ($7.50). It’s a plate of blue and red velvet fluffy waffles sandwiching sticky marshmallows and crumbly graham crackers (you can add scoops of ice cream for a few extra bucks). Not enough for your sweet tooth? Go all out and get the s’moreffles supreme ($29.90), which features three towering waffles stacked with marshmallows, strawberry jam, oreo biscuits, whipped cream and four whole scoops of ice cream.
If all that sounds too gelat for you, try the purple sweet potato waffles ($8.50) — crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, they come drizzled in gula melaka sauce for added sweetness.
Who needs normal waffles when you can have these?
