COCONUTS HOT SPOT — In the search for a whole new place to serve meaty treats, Italian steakhouse Bistecca didn’t have to look far — its brand new home is right next door to its former one along Mohamed Sultan Road.

Though the address has only changed slightly, everything else has gone through massive revamps, and then some. The restaurant decor, for example, has taken on a rustic-yet-upscale look — one that replicates the feel of a warm Italian farmhouse with exposed brick walls and wood paneling. The opulence comes in the form of plush leather seats and booths, grand chandeliers, and a cozier, more intimate aesthetic.

Bistecca knows not to fix what ain’t broke, which is why it’s kept its signature dish — the Bistecca alla Fiorentina ($188) — as a highlight in the menu. It’s a formidable Australian 1.1kg T-bone steak, of the F1 Karoge Washu Bred Wagyu & Tajima Bloodline, and definitely meant to be shared… unless you’ve got the stomach for all that meat. If you do, there are plenty of other meat sweat-inducing mains such as the Agnello (400g pasture-fed lamb rack with rosemary mustarda, $60), the Pollo (300g brick-pressed free-range chicken, $38) and other cuts of beef, including the pricey A4-grade Japanese toriyama umami wagyu striploin ($90).

In case you don’t want to jump the gun too quickly, the array of antipasti and side dishes should form the bulk of starters. Tantalize your tastebuds for feasting with the salumi platter ($25/$38) that comes with slices of prosciutto, morcón ibérico, spicy coppa, and bresaola. That should go well with the company of Bistecca’s burrata ($40), a generous 300g portion of hand-formed young mozzarella on a bed of field greens.

Dessert options are as rich as the entrées, with highlights including the Black Forest cake ($15) served with cherry brandy and vanilla gelato, as well as the red wine poached pear ($15) that comes with cream cheese, pistachio, and red wine granita. Or you can always just go wild with Bistecca’s dessert wine selection to score an opulent touchdown.
