Montigo Resorts — the holiday destination in Batam (and Bali) that Singaporeans escape to for quick getaways — has crossed seas to launch its own cafe on our shores.
Of course, it’s not the same as actually being on vacation — especially since Cafe Montigo is tucked away at a soulless mall The Star Vista — but should you find yourself pining away for that beach holiday you had a while ago, pop by Buona Vista for a small reminder.
The no-frills space features a menu designed by Montigo Resorts’ head chef, with Indonesian dishes like ayam panggang berempah (grilled spiced chicken, $13.50), gado gado salad ($9), and martabak manis (sweet thick pancakes, $6) that customers can customize with toppings like chocolate, red velvet, cheese, or pandan.
If you prefer to stick with familiar creations, you’ll be happy to find rather standard cafe offerings on the menu as well. Think waffles with ice cream ($11), smoked salmon sandwiches ($14), truffle fries ($5), and mac ‘n’ cheese ($7), as well as all-day breakfast items like pandan pancakes with coconut ice cream ($8) and eggs benny ($11) on Sundays.
As for the drinks, they range from genmaicha lattes ($6) to elderflower lychee coolers ($7) to avocado espressos ($9.50) to salted caramel speculoos shakes ($9).
Cafe Montigo is at #01-50 The Star Vista, 1 Vista Exchange Green. 6694-1136. Daily 10am-10pm.
