After Cheek By Jowl served its last Michelin-starred meal in February, chef Rishi Naleendra got to work revamping the Boon Tat Street unit into a more casual, playful concept. Now, it feels more like home, with warm lights, wood furnishings, and booth seats sharing the space with art pieces and oversized bulbs brightening up the open kitchen and countertop area.
Cheek Bistro may be going in a different direction from its predecessor, but with the Cheek By Jowl team trained by Naleendra and his wife, the modern Australian menu has all the trimmings of hearty comfort food that lean towards bold flavors with an unconventional twist.
Highlights on the culinary line-up include burrata ($22) with heirloom tomatoes and fermented green chilli, and goat’s cheese parfait ($15), a dessert of dehydrated white chocolate and frozen strawberry crumbs. To pair with the food, the wine list offers more than 80 labels sourced from across the globe, from Burgundy to Burgenland.
The bistro being just a couple weeks old, it remains to be seen whether it’ll draw the attention of the Michelin Guide Singapore once again. Only time will tell.
