Lunch at this new donburi eatery for bowls of chilli crab tendon, unagi katsu don and more

Shout out to those working around the Bugis area — in case you’re growing bored of the food options in your vicinity, there’s a new stall that can feed your lunch needs at Ramen Champion Bugis+. Don Meijin (it directly translates to ‘rice bowl professional’ in Japanese) is a donburi specialist that serves up bowls of tempura and short grain Japanese rice.

Each tendon dish comes topped with asparagus, pumpkin, fish fillet, eggplant, veggie and seafood kakiage, and prawns — these tempura items are fried at a particular temperature in a water fryer to emerge light and crispy.

One signature dish to try is the spicy chilli crab tendon, which features splash of homemade chilli crab sauce dousing the ingredients. The menu also offers five other tendon options, including crab meat ankake.

Alternatively, go for the soft shell crab don or unagi katsu don. The mille feuille katsu don is another proud plate of the eatery — its thinly-sliced pieces of pork loin are coated with nama panko for a crunch to every bite.

Don Meijin is at Ramen Champion Bugis+, #04-10 Bugis+, 201 Victoria St.
