Hello, Hokkaido: A 10-day Japanese festival makes its debut at Resorts World Sentosa

This month, a small slice of Japan comes to Singapore, thanks to the inaugural Hello Hokkaido festival at Resorts World Sentosa. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations, the 10-day festival will feature a Japanese yatai street filled with over 20 food and retail vendors showcasing the best of Hokkaido street food culture. Think Hokkaido Santouka ramen, melon soft serve ice cream by Ohara Farm, salmon from the Teshio province, and lots more.

Of course, you can’t eat, drink and be merry without the drinking part, and that’s where the Sake Bar comes in. Sip on a wide selection of sake from four notable breweries – Kitano Homare, Hakodate Wine, Grande Polaire and Nippon Seishu.

When you’re just about full of the good stuff, be entertained by musical acts like pop singer Mashiro Ayano, girl band Milcs Honmono and champion shamisen (a traditional Japanese flute) player Niya. If all this gets you super psyched about Hokkaido, browse through tour packages offered by various travel agencies at the fair.

Besides all the boisterous festivities, you can also experience Japanese cuisine in the menus of nine celeb chef restaurants at RWS. Names like Syun, Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora and Forest will be serving up limited edition dishes crafted with premium ingredients like uni (sea urchin), kani (crab), hotate (scallop) and ikura (salmon roe) from Hokkaido. A la carte plates start from $22, while three-course set menus start from $88.

Hello Hokkaido is from Nov 18-27, 11am-10pm at The Forum and Resorts World Convention Centre, Resorts World Sentosa. Free.
