The Mid-Autumn Festival (Oct 4) is still a ways away, but new creations have already started springing up — some meh, some slightly more interesting. If you’re the type who likes to plan ahead, here are three new snowskin flavors from Goodwood Park Hotel to make a mental note of.

First up, prickly pear with bergamot ($52/four, $32/two). The pastel pink mooncake is made with the fruit of the cactus plant, with diced pears and a splash of bergamot for citrusy notes. It’s a tad sour, and if you’ve never had prickly pear… well, you may not be a fan of this one.

Then there’s the reddish-hued apple cider one ($36/two) that’s mildly alcoholic — don’t worry, it’ll take way more than one mooncake to get you buzzed — and reminiscent of apples (not really cider, though) in a sweet and tangy way.

But our favorite was the root beer mooncake ($36/two) that had a subtle hint of the namesake drink without being too overpowering. Made with vanilla beans and a dash of rum, this cream-colored creation gave us a quick flashback to the nostalgic days of A&W root beer floats.

Besides the three newcomers, you can also order the hotel’s standard offerings like Mao Shan Wang durian snowskin, mango with pomelo, or traditional baked ones.

The mooncakes are available from Aug 23-Oct 4 at Goodwood Park Hotel.
