Food court stall experiments with chicken rice in truffle and salted egg versions

At the basement food court of Cineleisure Orchard, near the always-popular Fish & Chicks, sits a stall that attracts a good crowd of its own. Eat Chicken Rice offers a variety of chicken rice that’s anything but ordinary, with traditional plates like Hainanese and roasted chicken alongside creative renditions such as salted egg popcorn chicken with black pepper and a side of crispy fish skin, curry with poached egg, and braised mushroom.

Each plate/bowl costs $8.90 and is served with half a spring chicken instead of a few measly slivers. You’ve also got three sauces — chicken rice chilli, ginger, onion and garlic, as well as a mix of BBQ marinade, soy sauce and spices — to give your meal a punchy kick. But if you’re gunning for a spice level of the flaming variety, try the Szechuan-style poached chicken that comes covered in crushed peanuts.

Of course, the highlight of the eatery is its truffle chicken rice — the dish features half a poached chicken, a lava egg, spring onions, and rice that’s been mixed with truffle oil-infused mushrooms. It’s something different from your regular old hawker chicken rice, that’s for sure.

Eat Chicken Rice is at Koufu food court, Cineleisure Orchard basement, 8 Grange Rd, 9828-3490. Daily 10.45am-midnight.
