Coffee and cocktails each have their own loyal following — put them together, though, and it can either turn out to be a terrible union of two of our favorite things, or a next-level drink of its own. At 78 Alkofelic, a new Purvis Street watering hole touted as Singapore’s first (and only) coffee cocktail bar, the star beverage is featured in different renditions, alongside coffee brews, classic cocktails, teas, beers, wines, and cold-pressed juices on the menu.

The name itself is a play on the words “alcoholic” and “coffee”, and the space is an eclectic one, with liquor bottles beside coffee machines and colorful lights hanging from the ceiling.

Besides familiar alcoholic coffee drinks ($15 each) like Irish Coffee, Old Fashioned Coffee, and Espresso Martini, the bar’s signatures include a concoction called the Flying Singaporean, a blend of absinthe, XO, and coffee, as well as an Ice Boozy Alkofee, which is made of Cointreau, brandy, Kahlua, hot coffee, and Irish cream.

For more caffeinated boozy beverages, try recommended ones like Romeo’s Juliet, of Patron XO, frangelico, Baileys, and milk; or Buttery Nipples, a mix of vodka, Irish cream, coffee, and schnapps.

There’s more in dairy-spiked stuff: 78 Alkofelic’s Scotch Tea is a mix of chai masala, scotch, and evaporated milk, and its Sexy 78 consists of Patron XO, Kahlua, Baileys, and Cointreau.

For coffee purists wondering what kind of beans are used for the brews: They vary throughout the week, from Ethiopian single origin beans to in-house blends. And if you prefer to keep your two favorite drinks separate, the menu’s got you covered with the likes of espresso ($3-4), latte ($4.50), cappuccino ($4.50) and piccolo ($4) options.

To pad your stomach with light bites before going heavy on the coffee and/or cocktails, the kitchen offers pretty standard light bites like croissants ($3.80) and raisin scones ($2.40), as well as beef lasagne ($11.50), Thai chicken wrap ($7.50), Hawaiian pizza ($14), and chicken and mushroom pie ($7.50).
