Wine lovers, rejoice. We’re giving you more of a reason to drink (responsibly!) this August, thanks to the 8.8 Wine Sale happening at a Cold Storage, Fairprice or Sheng Siong near you, and online at Amazon Prime Now and Redmart

To help you kick off the month of August, we’ve put together our recommendations on what to do for National Day weekend — and every other weekend after that! We’ll tell you which wines will make a perfect accompaniment to your weekend plans this August. Also, wine not stock up on some choice vinos when they go on sale this August?

Chase a sunset

Take the party outside with a bottle of Matua, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, to keep things cool in the eternal sauna that is this city-state. Fruit-forward and zesty, it’s the ideal August sundowner wine. This is a refreshing wine, one that works perfectly for a refreshing afternoon tipple, watching sunsets, and keeping the party going well into the night. It’s a wine that goes down crisp at pool parties or even if you’re just lounging by Siloso beach. Pick up a bottle at SG$23.50 (U.P. SG$37.50) at your nearest Cold Storage or Sheng Siong.

Catch up on life with the birth givers

For French wine lovers, Maison de Grand Esprit Miraculeuse Bordeaux SG$24.50 at Cold Storage, Fairprice or Redmart (U.P. SG$38) is an exciting pick. The label is known for manufacturing wines that embody French winemaking — with a modern twist. Sourced from France’s most treasured wine regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône and Provence, Maison de Grand Esprit prides itself on using “Old World” techniques with a “New World” mentality. This fusion of new and old ideas could inform your weekend plans — if they drink, this could be an opportunity for you to bridge the gap with your parents!

As you sip and chew the fat, you’ll pick up on the blackcurrant and plum notes, but also on some fun anecdotes from the folks. It’s no wonder wine enthusiasts young and old are going ooh la la at this bottle of red.

Bring your own beau

Here’s a fun date idea — explore Singapore’s BYOB restaurants! Living in the foodie paradise in Singapore is a privilege, and we’d encourage you to use it. There’s almost always an abundance of restaurants just waiting to be discovered. Partner up with your date to pick dishes off the menu that best suits the wine you’ve brought. The full-bodied punch of flavor from a bottle of Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz SG$26 at Cold Storage (U.P. SG$34) will definitely earn you some brownie points with your date.

On the other hand, a bottle of Wolf Blass Yellow Label Merlot at 2 bottles for $45 (U.P. SG$58) available at Fairprice is also a sure winner when paired with our local dishes. It’s not known as Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon in its class for nothing! The ruby-hued, fruity merlot is a soft and delicate pour, the perfect accompaniment to a myriad of flavors. It’s a wine with a smooth finish, which is also how we hope those pick-up-lines were landing.

Getting the girls together to (finally) plan that getaway!

If the aim was to finally convince your gal pals to come over and work through budgeting for the trip, why not try this tipple? For the discerning oenophiles, a bottle of Beringer Founders Estate Cabernet Sauvignon SG$24.50 from Fairprice and Sheng Siong (U.P. SG$38) might do the trick.

The full-bodied and spicy Cab will take you on a trip, as you’ll taste black cherry, raspberry, vanilla and cinnamon spice. Taking down a few of these with the girls is a great way to chill, and you’ll want a refill.

The wines listed here are all going for 20-35% off all August while stock lasts, so don’t come whining to us if you miss out on this sale happening right now at Cold Storage, Fairprice, Sheng Siong, Amazon Prime Now or on Redmart
