Here’s another case of a driver berating a traffic enforcer.

A Facebook user, who wishes not to be named, yesterday posted a video of an irked woman who scolded a traffic enforcer for pulling her over. The woman allegedly drove in the bicycle lane of Doña Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig.

The poster, who took the video from a nearby bridge, told Coconuts Manila that the enforcers issued a traffic violation ticket to the woman.

He wrote in the post: “The [Philippines is the] only country where traffic enforcers fear motorists and motorists feel self-entitled and abuse them. This lady was caught going through the bicycle lane using her blue Honda Mobilio.”

The video shows a woman in a blue dress pointing her finger at one of the two traffic enforcers who pulled her over.

The man who posted the video told Coconuts Manila through a Facebook message that the incident happened around 1:30pm yesterday.

He said he was told by fellow onlookers that the woman in question was visibly angry at the enforcer for stopping her. “According to them (onlookers), she passed through the bicycle lane,” he said.

He said that the woman was defending herself, saying in a loud voice that the officer was just assuming she drove in the bicycle lane. He said he heard the woman yell at the traffic authority in Filipino: “Did you see it (me driving on the bicycle lane)? Did you see it?”

He shared that he wasn’t able to capture it on video, but he said he heard two loud slaps, certain that it was done by the woman. “If the lady was [the one who was] slapped, I am sure she wouldn’t go back in her car,” he stated.

“Whether or not she violated [the laws], we shouldn’t treat authorities like that,” he said. “My purpose for the [Facebook] post is all about respect.”

The video has been circulating on social media, garnering over 466,000 views and 6,700 shares as of this article’s posting.

Netizens didn’t shy away from giving their opinions. Jake Dela Cruz Lavarejos said in Filipino: “Wow she should’ve been arrested.”

Greg Co added that the driver should be arrested and the car should be impounded since she doesn’t know how to follow traffic laws.

“Does she need to yell? Everything can be done through a nice conversation, or does she simply just want to intimidate them (officers)?” asked Martha Tulang.

Alissa Paguio felt bad for the enforcer. “Poor [traffic] enforcers.”

Jake Ginguni chalked it up to how Filipinos are. “Pinoys… They’re wrong, but they’re still brave enough to scold other people.”
