Viral video: Drunk driver rams into van multiple times, smiles as he gets arrested

Rush hour in Manila can be crazy, but a passenger on a public utility van — called a UV Express in Manila — this week captured a video of just how crazy Manila’s roads can really get, when a drunk driver rammed into their vehicle immediately after he and fellow passengers had gotten off.

Crisdale Aguilar Pasion posted the video of the incident on Tuesday evening and has 3.1 million views as of posting time.

According to a report in local newspaper Tempo, suspect Niño San Gabriel slammed into the UV Express at around 9:30pm that night. Before hitting the van, he also hit a motorcycle.

The driver of the UV Express was identified as Benjamin Dela Cruz Jr., who tried to block San Gabriel after his van was hit.

As the last passenger gets out of the van, you can see San Gabriel ramming into the UV express — hard — before taking off.

The passengers, visibly shaken, curse at the driver after he takes off. Pasion then asks for help from nearby motorcycles to chase down San Gabriel.

According to the Inquirer, people standing by were able to flag down police, who stopped San Gabriel. He refused to get out of his vehicle, however, and attempted to flee, forcing police to shoot out his tires.

The Tempo report said police then had to break his window because San Gabriel still refused to surrender.

He was visibly intoxicated when arrested and actually smiled at reporters who tried to interview him at the nearby police station, though he refused to answer their questions.

Inquirer said he apologized yesterday and admitted that he was drunk.

If all that wasn’t enough, police told reporters guns were siezed from San Gabriel’s vehicle and they are now checking if the firearms are licensed.

San Gabriel a metric ton of charges, including resisting arrest and disobedience, grave threat, illegal possession of firearms, driving under the influence, and reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damages to property.
