A 23-year-old Japanese man who became popular in social media for selling rice omelette or omurice has starred in a music video.

“Kuya Omurice” plays the role of a cafe barista who longs for a customer in the music video of “Boku No Mono Ni Nattte,” the Japanese version of Itchyworms’ “Akin Ka Na Lang,” sung by Aisaku Yokogawa.

Also seen in the video are Tagalog-speaking Japanese comedians HPN3.

Omurice is short for omelette rice. It’s a modern Japanese invention where fried rice with ketchup is wrapped in a tantalizing French omelette.

“Kuya Omurice” first became viral last June after Diane Adolfo posted her experience of ordering from the street vendor PHP35 per order.

She said that Kuya Omurice, who has yet to reveal his real name, caught her attention because it’s “not everyday that she sees a foreign national selling food items on the street.”

Adolfo said that the omurice tasted similar to omelette in the Philippines.

On a post on his page, Kuya Omurice said he believes omurice “can help change the world.”
