Commuting in Manila could be an intense experience, but it’s not always this intense.

A bus conductor beat up a colleague for refusing to give up his seat for an elderly passenger. The incident was recorded by one of the passengers named Janno Cabatuan, who uploaded it yesterday on his Facebook account. The bus was en route Monumento, Caloocan.

The conductor’s Manny Pacquiao-like performance was enough to make the video go viral. It was shared more than 31,000 times as of today.

In a phone interview with Coconuts Manila, Cabatuan said the incident occurred inside a Dela Rosa Transit bus at around 1pm yesterday.

Cabatuan recalls: “The guy in red couldn’t pay [his fare], but he introduced himself as an employee of the transit company. So the bus conductor (the one in blue) allowed him to ride [and sit inside the bus] for free. When an old lady came on board, the conductor asked him to give up his seat for the lady because she paid her fare.”

He added: “The man refused, and acted as if he was going to hit the bus conductor. But the bus stopped and he failed to punch the conductor. It gave the conductor the opportunity to pummel him.”

The guy stayed on board for a few minutes but Cabatuan said some of the passengers told him to leave the bus. The man eventually left.

Now, this may sound strange but netizens thought the violent incident was amusing.

Wrote Paul Flores: “He caught all of it [punches] he didn’t even fight back [laughing emoji].”

Joked John Taborada: “[And the winner] by [u]nanimous decision goes to (sic) mister conductor.”

“This is the kind of thing I’d like to watch 100 times,” wrote Mark Cruz.

Diones Blake encouraged the man in red to fight back. “F*ck it, punch him back,” he wrote.

Come on guys, violence is not the best — or the only — way to settle disputes.
